Reflecting developments in engineering and business information technology, recent directives of the Department of Defense are mandating greatly increased rigor in IT systems development.
Transition to DoDs, Global Information Grid and its Service Oriented Architecture demand advanced methodologies that include Integrated Architecture descriptions, Model-Based Data Engineering, and Simulation-Based Test Development. The foundation of modeling and simulation (M&S) offer a comprehensive collection of concepts, methods, technologies, and practices to support life cycle development activities for complex IT systems. In this short course, the M&S foundation and its support for component-based system design, test and evaluation are described and illustrated with real world examples. Such infrastructure capabilities and tools are playing critical roles in today's emerging M&S applications. After completing this short course, managers and technical personnel will be able to better evaluate the role of M&S concepts, engineering and management benefits, and potential use. Furthermore, they will be able to pursue specialized courses leading to M&S certificate and/or graduate degree. - Program Schedule
